Biggest medieval castle in Europe
The brick castle of Malbork was the seat of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order and the biggest structure of that type in medieval Europe.
The castle is encircled by defensive walls with gates and towers. The Grand Master’s palace is believed to be the top achievement of the late-Gothic style. The representative summer refectory is the most attractive chamber in the castle interiors.
Now a museum, the castle attracts tourists with open-air son et lumière shows.

Today, GdaĆsk is the capital of the Pomeranian province and an important administration centre. The nature was very generous here. Sprawling on the southern Baltic coast, GdaĆsk gains a lot thanks to its background of the picturesque Tri-City Landscape Park and the hills and lakes of the Kashubian Switzerland district.
The offer addressed at those who seek leisure at the sea comprises twenty three kilometres of clean beaches, three organised bathing grounds, and a 130-metre long pier. These are appended with such other outdoor attractions as the GdaĆsk cycling tracks, zoological gardens, the famous Oliwa Park with its ancient trees, the "GdaĆsk Fortress" Culture Park of City Fortifications with unique authentic military architecture, numerous parks and city squares, or the nature reserves of the Sobieszewo Island. The list is far from complete. The heart of the Old City features a yacht marina. Amateurs of water sports can indulge in their pastime out in the Bay of GdaĆsk or along the MotĆawa Arm, an exquisite watercourse for canoeing or kayak escapades.
Always hospitable, GdaĆsk invites visitors to its charming lanes and historic interiors, bathing grounds on the sea and sailing courses, comfortable hotels, elegant restaurants, and cosy cafes. The city has several theatres, a philharmonic hall, opera house, outdoor summer musical stage, three multi-cinema complexes and several smaller cinemas, frequented youth clubs, pubs, and discos.
Its numerous museums, concerts, fairs, exhibitions, and street theatrical events complete the broad spectrum of the city's cultural offer. Everyone will find something of his/her liking, irrespective of the interests or mood.
Bound with the sea and the "Baltic Gold of North", GdaĆsk has cultivated the tradition of amber craft for ages. The local masters have developed their own amber processing school, and the quality of their works is unrivalled elsewhere. The Baltic amber, or succinite, is actually hardened mineral resin originally formed 40 million years ago. The mineral contains a relatively large admixture of succinic acid, which gives it its exceptional healing properties. GdaĆsk has always been a major centre of mining and processing this unique mineral famous for magnificent amber works of art. As such, the contemporary GdaĆsk is a respected centre of the related scientific research. Here are the main offices of the National Amber Chamber of Commerce and the International Association of Amber Masters. GdaĆsk hosts the world's largest amber fairs: AMBERIF and AMBERMART. It is a recognised site on both the historic, and the contemporary amber route. The beginnings of first amber collections in the city date back to the second half of the 17 th century with inclusions in the centre of interest. To recognise GdaĆsk 's acclaim for amber and the mastery of its artists one of the stone varieties was called gedanit after the city name. Many historic and modern amber routes converge at the World Amber Capital.
